I woke up late Wednesday morning, immediately called a cab, packed frantically, got picked up a few minutes later, argued with the driver to take Earhart expressway rather that I-10, lost the argument, waited in 25 minutes of traffic on I-10, arrived at the NO International Airport 20 minutes before my flight, hustled through security and got to my gate only to find my flight to Newark delayed for two hours. What a pain in the ass. I went back through security to kill some time and get something to eat.

When I visit NY this time of year, I always dread those first steps outside the airport, when I am compelled to remember what cold weather actually feels like. To my surprise, however, it was actually a nice night, 53 degrees. I was excited to be back.

Whenever I spend a few days back in NY, I get extremely nostalgic and remember all of the things that made me happy when I was growing up. Here are some of the things I miss about NY:

  • First and foremost, my family (especially mom and dad) and friends
  • Beautiful browns, yellows, oranges and reds–Fall colors you just don’t get in the south
  • Grand Central Station
  • Smooth, evenly-paved roads
  • Snow (although i didn’t get to see any this weekend)
  • Fresh NY bagels
  • Delis
  • Hot-Teryaki wings from Candlelight Inn in Westchester, NY
  • And last but certainly not least, real Italian food, specifically pizza
